Child sex pervert Gary Glitter has a split personality verging on schizophrenia, his last friend claims.
Gordon Buchanan said: “His good side is Gary Glitter, the rocker that everyone knows and millions used to love. The sick side is Paul Gadd. I’ve never met Paul his alter ego, I’ve always called him Gary.
“Gary’s grappling with the darker side of Paul Gadd. Deep down he is a sick child.”
Buchanan, 54, a close friend of Glitter for 20 years, went to meet the pervert rocker when he arrived in Britain over a week ago after being deported from Vietnam.
Waiting at Heathrow Airport he believed the authorities would immediately transfer the 64-year-old Leader of the Gang singer to a psychiatric hospital.
But Buchanan claimed: “When I turned up at the airport the police told me that if I didn’t take him they would just drop him at the Tube station. I had no choice. They just put him in my car.”
The police asked the wealthy hairdresser to give Glitter sanctuary for 48 hours so he took him home to his £2million detached cottage on the Hampshire coast.
In a vain attempt to get sympathy for his friend, Buchanan said: “He was in a pretty bad state when we arrived at mine.
“I put him in the bath, fed him, washed his clothes and talked with him. All the possessions he had with him were a couple of pairs of filthy jeans.”
He added: “I suggested he goes to the Priory and then I would go and see him, but he won’t go. The problem is Gary doesn’t understand. He doesn’t want to go to hospital.” Buchanan gave an insight into how Glitter has spent his time since he was thrown out of Vietnam after being freed from jail for interfering with two young girls.
After four days in the cottage, on Tuesday Glitter’s hiding place was discovered when the pair went to a car showroom with Glitter disguised in a bizarre red wig.
Buchanan said: “We needed some food and Gary said ‘I’d like to come out for the ride’, so I thought ‘OK’
“He’s dreaming of driving cars again, so that’s why we went to look. I thought it’s safe. And he was really excited about looking at the cars. When we were discovered it was horrible.”
After that Glitter and Buchanan fled Hampshire.
Fearing for their safety the pair first went to Fareham police station before driving to a secret location more than 150 miles away.
Buchanan says he has had no contact with Gary since and doesn’t know where he is. “We were met by police on a road. I handed him over to four people, it was all cloak and daggers, I was given a codeword. That’s the last time I saw him.”
Through the police, Glitter was put in touch with government scheme Mappa-Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements - which has arranged a hideaway for him. But Buchanan fears Glitter won’t be able to cope on his own, secluded from the outside world and even believes his friend could kill himself.
He said: “I’m terrified that’s what he’ll do. I’m not sure he’s going to live through this. I saw a very distressed person.
“A little bit more of a push and I see what people really want, Gary will be in a box. He is not a well person and his hearing is rapidly deteriorating - he’s terrified he won’t be able to sing any more. I was his last sanctuary, he truly has nothing.
“He really needs to go into hospital and only then will the truth be worked out and the paedophile subject matter addressed.”
Buchanan met Glitter in the late 80s through a love of yachting.
Three years ago he bought Glitter’s boat Voyageur from him for £62,000.
Misguidedly, he continues to defend his friend . “I never saw anything alarming about his behaviour towards children,” he said. “I have asked him repeatedly if there’s any truth in it and he always says ‘no’.
“I don’t believe Gary is guilty of anything. But I’m being forced into understanding I could be wrong.
“Maybe people are so sick they become viewed as evil. We need to address the real issue so children can be safe for the future.
“He is a very sick man and I am astonished by the way the authorities are treating him.”
Buchanan believes Glitter’s sexual interest in children could stem from his own history of abuse. Born in Banbury, Oxon, Glitter was illegitimate and never met his father.
At the age of 10, he and his brother were put into care. “He spent his childhood in children’s homes and was abused in every way,” said Buchanan.
“He moves on in life to win love because he didn’t get that when he was young.”
Buchanan, who has been married three times, also tells of Glitter’s time in prison.
Glitter was jailed in Britain in 1999 for possessing 4,000 child porn pictures. He was caged again for three years in March 2006 for committing obscene acts with two girls.
He was freed early from Vietnam’s Thu Duc prison for good behaviour, then deported.
“Gary told me he went to five prisons in Vietnam,” said Buchanan. “At one stage he shared a cell with 47 men and curled up into a ball on the floor out of fear.
“I tried my best to see him. The only person who visited Gary is his niece, she went once three years ago,” explained Buchanan.
Now yobs have attacked Buchanan’s home. He was forced to live in his car for days and has come forward to put the whole thing behind him.
Sadly unable to see past his friendship, Buchanan admits: “My home, my family, my business, have all been targeted. Yet I have no regrets, I would do it all again.
“I would jump through a burning hoop of fire if Gary was on the other side.
“I’m afraid for Gary’s life and I appeal to people to be more understanding, he needs help. You wouldn’t attack somebody in a wheelchair, his sickness is in his mind.
“All that really matters in life is showing kindness - and that is all I tried to do.
“But I have reached a point where things cannot get any worse so I cannot be any more help to him. That’s it I’m finished.”

glitter is due to be re arested very soon in relation to johnthan king and this time hopefully the two two of them will be served justice.i think tam payton is linked as well although i am unsure of tam payton wether he is dead ?

Everyone is entitled to their views and you have not stated facts at all and abuse happens in children's homes, foster parents etc too and not all abuse happens at home and that is a FACT

If I had a wish it would be to remove all Paedophiles from our society. They are a cancer amongst us. The problem would not exist with these Monsters, if accomodation & transportation were made available to deport them to "Alcatraz". and leave young innocent children alone. It is empty and would be perfect for them. They could do what ever they liked to each other and who would care. I am sure their families would be relieved not to be burdened with them anymore.. Child Abuse not only destroys the innocent Child but effects the entire Family. I speak from experience. It is time the Victims were protected.
