Adolescents and psychiatric drugs. What are the long term affects?
I have spent alot of time looking into drugs given to teenagers for depression, diagnosed or suspected mental health illnesses.
As we are all aware many drugs cause side affects and during my quest for information I am alarmed that whilst drug companies and specialists are researching the use of drugs on children and adultsand disclosing some oftheir short term affects based on the recommended doses my concerns are the long term affects which I seem to be finding are more and more disturbing because I cant find the long term affects.
We would naturally assume that drug companies and specialists ie paediatricians would of looked into this especially when it involves a drug trial on a child or even trials on adultsbut I cant find any information and when drug companies or specialists are giving us advice on the ADR or short term effects they dont seem to be giving us the long term damage. Is this because they dont know? perhaps they assume there arent any long term affects.Perhaps they are baseing it on the recommended doses?
How would you feel if you were to find out there are long term affects that you were not told about because no one researched it?
How would you feel if it affected your life and the life of others as a possible result of those long term effects?
How would you feel if your child was given drugs that you didnt know would cause your child complications as an adult?
More coming on this soon
