A four-year-old girl found dead in her Merseyside home has been named by police.
Little Chloe Fletcher was discovered by officers after her 22-year-old mother left the family home in Merseyside and reported the killing from a phone box almost half a mile away.
Officers attended the red-brick semi on Oakdale Avenue in Wallasey shortly before 2am and arrested the woman on suspicion of murder.
She remains in custody and is being questioned by detectives. A post-mortem examination is being carried out to establish the cause of death.
Police have appealed for help and urged witnesses who saw Chloe’s mother making the emergency call to get in touch.
A force spokesman said: “At 1.42am, police received a phone call made from a public phone box on the corner of Poulton Road and Brentwood Street in Wallasey.
“Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed anyone using the phone box at around 1.40am this morning or has any other information to call them on 0151 777 2265 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 .”
The appeal came as Wirral social services confirmed Chloe and her family were known to them.
A spokesman said: “We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to everyone in the local community affected by this tragedy. “The little girl and her family were known to a number of agencies, including the Children’s Social Care team at Wirral Council, but given the early nature of the police investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
