Borough of Hackney settle out of court

A woman and her two siblings were paid £100,000 when London Borough of Hackney accepted that it had failed to remove them from home as children and protect them from horrific abuse. Despite there being no binding precedent, the woman’s lawyers successfully argued that councils have a duty of care under the Human Rights Act.
