I would like to thank the Panel, Chair and Guests who attended and took part in the No2abuse Failing to Care -Back to Basics debate held at Westminster 6th July

The No2abuse debate started to form in response to the Channel 4 debate which saw the guests edited out leaving the voice of those who mattered unheard and led to an appology to No2abuse which you can read here.

With a month to organise and secure the panel all but two were quick to respond to me and eager to participate whilst the DCSF showed a very different stance.  Shortly before the debates date Dawn Primarolo and Baroness Morgan’s secretary sent me emails informing me they were unable to attend as it was too short notice. A month of emails started to become obvious that they had no intentions of attending.  The lack of attendence by a Department who’s focus should be on Children, School’s and Families was soon noticed by everyone attending the debate as was the lack of a Labour MP/ Minister which was highlighted by a guest.

I had emailed all Labour MP’s and unfortunatly didn’t receive one response which is of concern

It was an interesting debate which a lot can be learnt from and improved on in order to get the best out of any future debates and Ivor Frank has kindly offered his services to chair all future debates as he is a careleaver, works to improve the system and is also considered a barrister of exceptional standing. I welcome his experience and expertise on all future debates as there will be more to come but they will be a series of debates that will go into an indepth on individual topics as apposed to combining them all together.

This debate gave a foundation for which future debates can now excel and get the most from them

I have also been offered further services from a sound team who will in future be responsible for any sound recordings as the sound recordings for some reason went wrong on the parliament system and I am now relying on John Hemming MP to send me an unedited copy of the no2abuse debate in full.

The No2abuse debate got off to a good start with a brief introduction by the chair of the panel starting with an unexpected panel member Lord Listowel who kindly offered his services at last minute, Professor Eileen Munro, Natasha Finlayson, Terri Dowty, Wes Cuell, myself, chair and to the right was Will McMahon, Ivor Frank, Tim Loughton MP and John Hemming MP.

Those on the panel play an important part in making decisions on child protection and children’s welfare and we look forward to getting to know them further in the coming months.

The debate was organised, hosted and brought to you by No2abuse - Teresa Cooper

Please check back for Part 2 of the article which will be brought to you shortly with an indepth article on the debate

Got this letter from Julian Brazier mp, I was sorry that you felt the meeting on Monday was poorly attended and that mps do not care about child protection, As the former President of the tory family Campaign i have been heavily involved in issues concerning cruelty to children for many years, and share your concerns completely. My past campaigns have included better treatment of children testifying in court against paedophiles who have abused them and better treatment of children in divorce cases, I am co chairman of the all party adoption group, and helped expose the misery of many children in the so called care of local authorities , I have also worked hard to raise the profile of child prostitution as an issue

    Hi Michael

The debate whilst a success had many things we werent able to cover in full due to the many topics which we can now break down into a series of future debates.

Whilst much liasing with the DCSF who now want a full copy of it didn’t bother to turn up their failure to attend was seen as a failure to care.

I emailed all Labour MP’s and didnt get one response again showing a failure to care and it is a sad state of affairs that those who claim to care when it comes to their self promotion dont in fact care when it comes to a debate organised by myself a careleaver and attended by guests whom they should be listening to and now show they in fact dont listen too.

I appreciate the debate wasnt one of which professionals are used to but it is important that those who have been through the system and going through it now are given a voice and the chance to participate in future debates because without them the system has no chance of improving.

experience tells me that unless the problem is concerning their own departments ballsed-up incompetence they don’t want other peoples dirty laundry bringing to their front doors. fact!Another fact is that these so-called experts haven’t a clue or 1 iota of understanding to other peoples plights. i’m sure some if not many have heard the phrase who did you dump all over to get promotion? I don’t have a great deal of faith in governments or policies they serve one purpose and one purpose only. if you can get away with telling the truth as long as it dosen’t affect our career then what’s the problem.well the truth shall set you free which is why the system is the way it is a pathetic and sad failure

Thanks for your reply Val. Well it seems that all the people who govern or not govern correctly are all power crazed; and not taking into account the real people that matter at the heart of the major issues that continue to blight this cruel and unfair society. What truly matters to them is the bank statement at the end of the month!
