Church Abuse Scandals Hit Hard this Easter

5th Apr 2010 | in Child Abuse

I was going to reserve my views on the Catholic & Anglican Church child abuse scandal that rocks the cradle so to speak but I can’t sit back any longer and say nothing

Easter is here and for many it is not such a happy day as we feel anger towards Churches that have not only let us down but failed to address us in carefully planned speeches by Church members

There has been intensive media coverage on child abuse within the Catholic Church rangeing from Priests and Nuns to the local choir masters but we see very little exposure on abuse within other churches as it is largely ignored.

Child abuse has not only been ignored, riggerously denied or covered up for decades by the Vatican, Priests or Nuns but it has in fact been ignored by the majority of the public albeit the woman down the road or the man who tosses a coin into the collection box at each Church service. This is not to undermine the scale of abuse by the Catholic Priests but let us not forget that the Catholic Church are not the only ones guilty of such henious crimes to children nor are they the only ones to ignore such crimes against children either.

Let is take a look at the Governments who also ignored the abuse of children abused in Church run homes with MP’s, Local Councillors, Doctors, Social Workers and many others who sat back and allowed it to continue for decades, and they still do. In fact they still go so far as to do all they can in many cases to ensure it is also covered up which they knowingly take part in.

If we are to highlight the blame and ignorance towards child abuse we must also take a look at the media who also took part in ignoring the abuse of children for decades until recent years. Then we need to look at the thousands of professionals and volunteers who also ignored the abuse of so many children in Church run homes and institutions. It would be simply absurd to assume they didn’t know what was happening because they did but they like most, they too, turned a blind eye.

Survivors of abuse were and still are persecuted by many and it’s not just by one specific type of professional or faith.

Then we have the public for decades who sat back and ignored millions of children who were abused and many even ignored their own children’s abuse despite desperate pleas for help.  Now lets take a look at the Police/Guardia who also sat back and done nothing to uphold the law in thousands upon thousands of child abuse allegations in the UK, Scotland, Ireland and Wales so they too are guilty of ignoring the abuse of vunerable children in Church run homes and institutions.

If we are honest about child abuse within the Church, it is suffice to say they couldn’t get away with that scale of abuse without all the other professionals and vast numbers of the public ignoring it along side the Church or aiding in the cover ups of those crimes.

The worst part is, it is still happening to children today in 2010 so nothing has changed as we see yet another story come out and it is endless because each and everyone who ignored the abuse, done nothing to stop it. If you have a germ it will double, tripple, quadrupal and before you know it you have a full scale infection or disease aggressively chipping away at it’s victim if it’s ignored. And thats exactly what many done, ignored it to the point it was out of control. A germ will breed if you don’t sort it out and Paedophiles are like germs. They grow in numbers at a mass rate if left to multiply and they have been left to multiply.

It has taken many years of survivors fighting to expose this kind of abuse and we have suffered to the extremes not to mention the impact it has had on our adult lives.

We don’t recieve appologies from those meant to protect us as innocent children, we often dont get reasonable treatment from most when trying to expose such abuse and all we get is a constant kick in the teeth from the insulting way of which we are treated during and after the abuse even as adults. In fact most survivors of abuse are discriminated against or persecuted at some point in their adult life so we at times have to hide the abuse we suffered for fear of being treated differently. And all because of the stigma and lies created by those in positions of Authority or in a position of Trust. It was an easy route for them to take because it made life easy for them to ignore it or if they were an abuser, to abuse other children by leading people to believe that every child that did speak up was labelled a fantasist and liar thus not believed. It’s a common practice and tactic that’s been used by abusers for decades. They misled the public in order to hide what they were/are doing to innocent children behind closed doors. Of course there were the ignorant who simply found it easier to sit and eat their cornflakes, sip their coffee and think as long as it isn’t happening to my child who gives a shit.

I am a survivor of abuse within a Church of England run home where the horrific abuse has left a legacy handed down to our children by way of birth defects. I can sit here all day and write about blame and my anger at the world as I have been ignored by other careleavers, other faiths because it wasn’t the same church, professionals, Church members, Kent Police, Child Abuse Charities, Wandsworth council, Social Workers including the 2 trained Social Workers underhanded tactics towards me in a university lecture recently, The NSPCC are also not exempt from ignoring it and I frankly find it all disturbing. I am not saying that everyone is the same because they are not as there are many good people out there from all walks of life but still too many even today ignore it.

Now we can open our eyes and look at the Judges who sit in courts and in short have wrecked many children’s lives and let us not forget that Judges were the ones who sent many of the innocent children to these Church homes and Institutions. Judges would sit on their golden throne thinking that because they are men/women of education, wealth and good solid breeding that it makes them exempt from their part in the scale of child abuse within the Church and the Care system. I won’t even venture into the level of corruption within the legal system as that’s for another story but thankfully there are good legal professionals who fight tooth and nail to get Justice for the survivors of abuse for which I am sure many of us are greatful for. There are also some Judges who want to see Justice served and will give a survivor the Justice they so deserve but many do not. I in the past have had some seriously dodgy legal representation which furthered the abuse I suffered.

The law then makes a mockery of every child abuse survivor by not only dragging them through an abusive system as adults but it undermines the abuse of survivors by awarding many the most horrendous pittance of compensation after breaking many of the survivors down over a period of years. The harsh process survivors have to go through to seek Justice is in itself abusive and does not constitute fair law at all. The law uses a process to deliberatly break down survivors emotionally and financially in order to force them to back off.

Abuse within the Church does not stop at the Catholic Church, far from it. The same level of abuse also happens within the Church of England and others so let us not kid ourselves that it is only a Catholic problem because it isn’t. Look at Kendall House for example, that is not a Catholic church run home, it was a Church of England home and that home not only physically, mentally and sexually abuse girls and imprisoned the likes of me in a very small room, not for days or weeks, but months locked in that room isolated & abused, it forced the largest doses of very dangerous psychotropic drugs ever seen in this country and a top specialist publicly stated he had never in his entire career seen doses that high given to an adult let alone a child. I have had to fight this abuse on my own because no one wanted to know. So when we talk about ignoring abuse I know that one only too well.

Child abuse is an ugly crime and it’s the one crime that’s still at the bottom of the list of Government priorities and there is an election on it’s way and everyone should unite from all faiths and loudly say to them “what are you going to do about it”

“What can we do about it”?

We can’t change what we have already experienced but we can change it for other children and now we need to look at how we can achieve that

Very True,, In church across the world people were giving money to support those who allowed children to be raped and tortured, And they will again to day, Archbishops, cardinals were talking about repentance, How does that work if the victim is dead

Of course it would be covered up. Think about it logically. A global institution in the frame for the most vile act to children. It has been around since forever, and it does not surprise me anymore. It kind of says something.Especially with the vow of celibacy to OBEY. Its still MANkind is it not. Just because someone is wearing a “dog collar” does not stop his “urges”. Everybody would trust a priest, doctor, lawyer, social worker because there ALL so “saintly”.They are held in the highest esteem. I will probably get yelled at by “pious people”/ultra religious people for being so bold here. But hey, watch “the boys from St Vincent”

Waiting to see if the TIMES will publish it. I am only what has proved to be true. But there are cases everyday of the “highest esteemed people” falling off there pedestals. I mean look at Dr Harold Shipman. Britains biggest serial killer. A bloody G.P. I realise that is not a prime example of every profession I have hinted at. But it does make one ponder.

DON’T THINK THE ADMIN ON FACEBOOK LIKES MY COMMENT, THEY REMOVED.!

Incidentally the “boys from St Vincent” is a TV movie that is sometimes shown on True Movies Channel . It reminds me of the Jersey Care Home scandals, but Canadian.Well there seems to be a lot of cases of the above mentioned knocking about. Look at Dr S. Britain’s most prolific serial killer. Went unsuspected until he started “slipping up”. Others are getting away with “crimes against humanity too”.

Previous comment put straight back on seconds later I put it, two hours after the one above

    Hi Melizza

You wont get any problems from this site grin

Your opinion matters a great deal

Harold Shipman is one case I’m always looking at and read a lot of the inv docs online.

Shipman was evil and other doctors and psychs are getting away with misusing drugs on children in and out of care and children have died because of it.

There’s a recent article on here about a child that died and I know another case where a child died at the hands of Dr Perinpanayagam and still the parents haven’t had Justice.

I have noticed people openly saying their comments on newspaper or social network websites are not being approved or removed and I must admit, not one newspaper approves my comments so I don’t bother trying. They wouldnt even approve my comments on stories about me and I have just faced similar on facebook myself and I rarely ever use that site. I don’t like it nor do I trust it.

Check out the Intercept Modernisation Programme wink and social websites etc UK

I don’t approve posts here by spammers and those who maybe personally abusive to another but I approve all others even if I don’t agree with them. Everyone has a right to a say

If Catholic priests abuse because of their vows of celebacy then why are priests from other faiths who are not held by the vow of celebacy also abusing children or downloading child abuse images?

I think the Catholic exposure is a clear reminder to all those in power and positions of trust that the public are now aware and they are not going to tolerate it any more and who can blame them/us

The other churches/faiths can and will attempt to stay silent about their own abuse cases but it will not be long before they too are faced with the same public outrage.

It is no longer a case of “if” but now a case of “when”

Government bodies are not going to be exempt from such expose either when they wrong innocent people and children and it is clear that the public have in short, had enough

I have the Harold Shipman book called Prescription for murder by Jean Ritchie, as well as a true crime shelf of books. They are hinting that Dr Shipman murdered old women and a few men as it had a link to the death of his mother from Cancer. He would carry out the same scenario of bedside manner of a nice cup of tea and Diamorphine Injections to his unsuspecting victims. This is a hypothesis but rings uncannily accurate. A very “evil man” who can kill by day, return at night to his family would suggest Psychopathic impulses. No confession, no remorse. Arrogance and grandiosity and a “god complex”. Does this sound like this Dr Peri who drugged you and other girls Teresa?

People get away with criminality because nobody would “think” that good old so and so could be incapable of such atrocities. They are able to cover there tracks well Especially pillars of communities. The public face, but behind the mask its WAY too eerie.
The church as an institution is one such thing. I think it is any religious order that is capable not just Roman Catholics. Though they make a vow of celibacy.  You may remember the Magdalene Laundries cases that was in all the newspapers in the last decade.
I get my comments on the newspapers often. Its a case of how it is worded. The best one is the SUN. I was banned from the daily mail for breaching there house rules. For instance my comment is in the TIMES regarding Martin Narey saying about “care” the other day.
Maybe my comment on Facebook was a little controversal. It was there briefly, then disappeared, but when I put about the comment directly above the comment it mysteriously reappeared. Can we say Censorship on social networking sites.I do not think it was merely my laptop being weird.

I’m just a true crime nerd by the way. Always have been.

    Hi Melizza

I could evaluate Perinpanayagam all day long and I think he was obsessed with his own research, success, control amongst other things and I think he was prepared to do anything to get himself recognised in the field of Psychiatry even if it meant hurting children in the name of science. He enjoyed what he was doing, always very calm when doing it with no show of emotion.

When I read about Josef Mengele all I see is Dr Perinpanayagam who was referred to as God by some who worked under him and the staff at Kendall House nick named him God. He enjoyed that title very much.

I personally called him the Mad Psychiatrist and on my travels across the net I came across a department of health document titled “Mental health and ill health in doctors” and part 2 was very interesting as it states and I quote “2.1 Risk of mental disorder

Although figures vary, research suggests that doctors have higher rates of mental disorder than the general population”

    I rest my case grin

Teresa, whilst reading your book I had images of the same thing. It reminded me of some people. So the same night I commented on the above article, I started reading another book. I was drawn to JOSEF MENGELE. My blood ran cold.In order for some doctors to get very well known they have to have some “interesting research”. I suspect that this Dr Peri would have published papers for his “theories”. It has the same kind of the Nazi expirements. My psychiatrist was very well known too. Dr Rachel Leheup. I know once she took my poetry I wrote. to conferences in Britain and oversees. Well thats what she said anyway. Her oppinion is vital as she does not actually say that I’m mentally ill EVER. Just the things that I’m saying at the time. I was an outpatient from 1986-99. “They” all knew things about me I could not remember. Stuff about a very fragmented life before the age of five. But in the last FOUR years I have been said to have Personality Disorder, then recently ONLY THE TRAITS everybody on the planet has. The same clinic.

Psychiatrists also have Psychiatrist doctors if they get “sick”. When Rachel’s husband died I asked her where she goes for help if she was “ill”. So that would mean it would be covered up. Do they go off “sick” or “unfit to practise”

The Shipman enquiry is an exhaustive document I must admit but “interesting”.

I have raised the issues with my church, I await a reply. I do not hold my breath, as the evil ones seem to have successfully infiltrated all the churches, for their own ambitions and their own twisted causes. I will say this though. No church under the Sacred Name of Jesus Christ can continue to abuse innocents and be held blameless. They will all be held accountable for what is happening to children. Suffer Little children to come unto me, does not mean make children suffer. It means allow children to be innocent allow children to be close to Jesus, not abuse them in the name and for the benefit of Lucifer.

My name is Kathleen O’Malley author of “Childhood Interrupted”.  As a survivor of Child Abuse in Ireland,  I am perlexed and astonished that the Catholic Church continues to preach morality to 23 million Catholics around the world,  Surely the recent public exposure of the Popes involvement in the moving of Paedophile Priests to other Dioceses should be questioned, as very few have faced Public Prosecution.  His actions have allowed these monsters to continue destroying young lives.  This crime should be taken more seriously and the criminals be punished accordingly.
